Instructions for Stealing a Sol LeWitt Piece
2018
Instructions for Stealing a Sol LeWitt Piece is an instructional document in the style of Sol LeWitt placed next to his public art installation in downtown Chicago, IL. The piece appropriates the presentation of LeWitt’s own instructional work and applies it to the absurd task of stealing his massive art installation. The irony and near impossibility of the task serve to question the intention of public art in metropolitan areas. If public art is for the public, then the public is instructed to take ownership.
